Texture & Stamping

Texture is the easiest way to give a pot personality.

Step 1 — Work while the clay is still soft, right after throwing or rolling a slab.
Step 2 — Gather textures: a piece of lace, a leaf, a seashell, the end of a pencil, a button.
Step 3 — Support the inside wall with one hand and press gently from the outside with the other.
Step 4 — Repeat a pattern around the pot, or let it wander. Both are beautiful.

Tip from Marilyn: Make your own stamp from a little ball of clay, carve a design in it, and fire it. Now you have a signature no one else owns.
