Carving & Fluting
Cut into a leather-hard wall to create lines, grooves, and rhythm.
Carving is done when the pot is leather-hard: firm enough to hold its shape, soft enough to cut like cold butter.
Step 1 — Lightly sketch your design with a needle tool.
Step 2 — Use a loop tool or carving tool and pull it toward you in smooth, even strokes.
Step 3 — For fluting, carve vertical grooves side by side from the shoulder to the foot.
Step 4 — Clean the edges with a soft, damp brush.
Don't carve deeper than a third of the wall, darling. We want drama, not a hole.
